02 Jun SET Educating For A Better World with WWGS
As part of our Spiritan school experience, our Spiritan ethos recognises that ‘development education’ is very much at the heart of our curriculum. For us, development education – as an ongoing educational process- is aimed at increasing awareness and understanding of the rapidly changing, interdependent and unequal world in which we live and share with others. In our schools, we engage pupils (and, by extension, their families) in the analysis, reflection and action for local and global citizenship and participation.
This understanding of our world -and the role each of us can play in improving it grows incrementally over the full period of a student’s time in Spiritan education. It is communicated through a vibrant, questioning and explorative Curriculum; a lived Spiritan ethos; our active involvement in our various Spiritan overseas missions; and a cohort of people (teachers, parents and pupils) who, by their active engagement, want to improve our world.
In a School network, this process, must be sensitive and age appropriate. The maturing Spiritan pupil becomes aware of the challenges and difficulties confronting them (and their world) and learns, through Development and Spiritan education, to seek solutions, remain positive and show solidarity to his fellow humans. by improving the condition of those in need.
Spiritan Education Trust’s partner in this Development Education initiative is WorldWise Global Schools.
